IBREI at the ESG Forum

On June 22, Nubia Lentz, a new member of IBREI’s ESG Committee, organized the 1st ESG Forum at Parque Global in São Paulo, in partnership with Oval Table.

The event was also attended by Madeleine Blankenstein, Felipe Burman, and Dr. Rodrigo Bandieri.

Marina Mattar, CEO of Perspectivas, delivered an insightful presentation on ESG trends around the world, providing participants with a comprehensive overview of global developments in the field.

A noteworthy point discussed during the event was how the term ESG gained significant prominence through Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock, who in 2020 published a letter emphasizing ESG criteria in the firm’s investment decisions.

Climate change was highlighted as a major factor contributing to global vulnerability, with CO₂ emissions affecting societies worldwide. Brazil has substantial potential to mitigate these impacts, particularly by preserving clean water resources, maintaining healthy soils, and protecting its rich biodiversity. Achieving this requires a drastic reduction in deforestation, improved land management practices, and greater use of clean energy sources.

Brazil ranks as the third country in the world in renewable energy capacity, benefiting from natural gas, hydropower, wind, and solar energy resources across its territory.

Moreover, Brazil holds strong potential to lead the global low-carbon economy, attracting investment and technology, while generating quality jobs and income domestically.

The key, as emphasized during the discussions, lies in planning, management, transparency, dialogue, and good governance.

The event was also attended by Celia Partes, entrepreneur, and Paula Caballero, CEO of The Nature Conservancy in Latin America.

With great pride, IBREI supported and actively participated in this important initiative.
