4th IBREI Business Council Meeting: Bilateral Agreement with Uruguay and Tax Reform


On August 23, 2023, the 4th IBREI Business Council Meeting was held at the headquarters of One Investimentos.

Under the leadership of Business Council President Lilian Schiavo, the event brought together Council Members and experts to explore highly relevant topics.


The meeting began at 9:00 a.m. and concluded at 10:30 a.m., providing a platform for in-depth and collaborative discussions. The main items on the agenda included:


1. Opening Remarks:


Lilian Schiavo, President of the Business Council, welcomed the participants and set the tone for the meeting, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and dialogue in the pursuit of innovative and sustainable business solutions.


2. Bilateral Double Taxation Agreement between Brazil and Uruguay:


Alejandro Arechavaleta, IBREI’s representative in Uruguay, presented a comprehensive overview of the bilateral double taxation agreement between Brazil and Uruguay. The details of the agreement were discussed, along with its potential impact on the business environment and investment flows between the two countries.


3. Tax Reform – Overview, Perspectives, and Impacts:


Mary Elbe Queiroz, President of IBREI’s Legal Council, provided a thorough analysis of the current status of Brazil’s Tax Reform. She outlined the present landscape, examined future prospects, and assessed the potential impacts on companies and investors.


Mary Elbe currently serves as IBREI’s official representative in the tax reform working groups within the Federal Senate.


4. Debates and Discussions:


Following the presentations, participants engaged in productive discussions. Council members shared insights, raised questions, and further examined the topics addressed, contributing to a meaningful exchange of ideas and perspectives.
