On November 17, the BRICS Summit took place — the annual meeting of the leaders of the BRICS countries (a bloc that brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

Due to the pandemic, this year the meeting was held 100% online, but it included the participation of the five leaders of the bloc’s member countries:

  • President of Brazil: Jair Bolsonaro

  • President of Russia: Vladimir Putin

  • Prime Minister of India: Narendra Modi

  • President of China: Xi Jinping

  • President of South Africa: Cyril Ramaphosa

During the meeting, the results of the work carried out by the BRICS committees throughout 2020, under Russia’s rotating presidency, were presented and submitted for approval by the heads of state.

Among the reports presented — and fully approved by the delegates — was the report developed by the BRICS Business Council (CEBRICS), of which IBREI is a member.

Starting in 2021, the rotating presidency of the bloc will be held by India.
